This commissioned portrait was done in several painting sessions on a 50 x 30 cm wood panel. The starting point was a contrasty low res digital photo of a couple posing under a pavilion in the middle of a small lake in the city park of Liepaja, Latvia. I choose a new image section and equalized some parts in the background, especially the pavilion architecture to correct aberrant lines. Then I started to block in the basic shapes and build up a more and more refined picture. Finally I was focusing on the figures and the faces.
