One of my first plein air works in 2017, the often overlooked 2WW architecture in Vienna, the Flaktürme in Augarten. Immovable monstrosities in one of Vienna’s oldest baroque gardens in the 2nd district. Some want to remove them to avoid any glorification of the Second World War. Others want to protect them as a cautionary sign for all. Many messages or signs of peace adorn the tower. The most eye-catching are broad white brush glyphs »NEVER AGAIN«. There is a second tower right next to the big one. This one is narrower and has a rectangular foodprint. I should complete the duo and come back in the near future to paint this second tower.
